How cPanel Hosting Works

For your info, it's good to be aware that most of the cPanel-based web hosting offers on the contemporary web hosting market are furnished by a quite unsubstantial business niche (when it comes to annual money flow) called reseller hosting. Reseller web hosting is a kind of a small-sized business niche, which provides an immense quantity of different web hosting brand names, yet providing exactly the same services: mostly cPanel web hosting services. This is bad news for everybody. Why? Owing to the fact that at least ninety eight percent of the web hosting offers on the whole website hosting marketplace offer literally the same thing: cPanel. There's no variety at all. Even the cPanel web hosting prices are identical. Quite identical. Giving those who need a top web hosting service virtually no other web hosting platform/web hosting Control Panel alternative. Thus, there is merely one fact: out of more than two hundred thousand website hosting trademarks around the world, the non-cPanel based ones are less than 2%! Less than 2 percent, remark that one...

The web hosting "variety" and the website hosting "offerings" Google shows to all of us come down to just one and the same solution: cPanel. Under hundreds of 1000's of different website hosting brand names. Imagine you are just an ordinary guy who's not very well acquainted with (as most of us) with the web page creation procedures and the hosting platforms, which in fact power the individual domains and web sites. Are you prepared to make your web hosting choice? Is there any web hosting option you can pick? Sure there is, nowadays there are more than 200,000 web hosting suppliers in existence. Officially. Then where is the difficulty? Here's where: more than ninety eight percent of these more than two hundred thousand different website hosting brand names in the world will give you literally the same cPanel hosting Control Panel and platform, named in a different way, with the very same price tags! WOW! That's how huge the diversity on the current web hosting market is... Full stop.

The web hosting LOTTERY we are all participating in

Simple math demonstrates that to pick a non-cPanel based web hosting vendor is a mammoth stroke of fortune. There is a less than one in 50 chance that an event like that will take place! Less than 1 in 50...

The positive and negative sides of the cPanel web hosting solution

Let's not be severe with cPanel. After all, in the years 2001-2004 cPanel was fashionable and probably covered most web hosting market requirements. To put it briefly, cPanel can do the job for you if you have just one single domain to host. But, if you have more domain names...

Negative Sign Number 1: A ludicrous domain folder setup

If you have 2 or more domains, though, be extremely watchful not to erase entirely the add-on ones (that's how cPanel will call each next hosted domain, which is not the default one: an add-on domain name). The files of the add-on domain names are quite simple to delete on the web hosting server, since they all are placed into the root folder of the default domain name, which is the very popular public_html folder. Each add-on domain name is a folder located inside the folder of the default domain. Like a sub-folder. Next time try not to erase the files of the add-on domains, please. Examine for yourself how great cPanel's domain name folder structure is:

public_html (here my-default-domain.com is situated)
public_html/my-family (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-domain.com (an add-on domain)
public_html/my-second-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-wife.net (an add-on domain)
public_html/my-third-domain.com (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-third-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-third-wife.net (an add-on domain)
public_html/rebeka (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/rebeka.my-third-wife.net (a sub-domain of an add-on domain)

Are you getting nonplussed? We undeniably are!

Predicament Number Two: The same electronic mail folder arrangement

The e-mail folder configuration on the web server is exactly the same as that of the domains... Making the same mistake twice?!? The sysadmin boys strongly increase their belief in God when managing the electronic mail folders on the email server, hoping not to bungle things up too irreparably.

Negative Side Number 3: A total deficiency of domain administration interfaces

Do we have to cite the total absence of a modern domain name management platform - a location where you can: register/migrate/renew/park or administer domain names, change domain names' Whois details, shield the Whois information, alter/set up nameservers (DNS) and DNS records? cPanel does not include such a "modern" GUI at all. That's a great inconvenience. An unjustifiable one, we would like to point out...

Negative Aspect Number 4: Many login places (min 2, maximum three)

How about the demand for another login to use the billing, domain and technical support management user interface? That's apart from the cPanel login credentials you've been already given by the cPanel-based web hosting company. Occasionally, on the basis of the invoicing tool (particularly developed for cPanel only) the cPanel web hosting supplier is using, the devoted clients can wind up with two extra login places (1: the billing transaction/domain name management platform; 2: the trouble ticket support software solution), ending up with a total of 3 user login locations (including cPanel).

Weakness Number 5: More than 120 web hosting Control Panel areas to become acquainted with... promptly

cPanel presents to your attention more than 120 areas inside the hosting CP. It's an excellent idea to get familiar with each one of them. And you'd better get acquainted with them quickly... That's inordinately impudent on cPanel's side.

With all due appreciation, we have a rhetorical question for all cPanel web hosting firms:

As far as we know, it's not the year 2001, is it? Remark that one as well...
